                    Tasmanian Six Leg Sideboard

                This
is a fine copy of the first type of sideboard made in Colonial
Australia. The fineness of the legs and triple-ring turning,
are characteristics of Australian turning up until the 1830's.
This is a country piece of fine quality.
As Australian cedar is an east coast hardwood that doesn't
grow south of New South Wales, cabinetmakers in Tasmania and
later Melbourne and Adelaide imported their cedar from New
                    South Wales and Queensland. |

                The
complete sideboard is constructed using mortise and tenons
joints for maximum strength. All the drawers are dovetailed
and cock-beaded to give it that fine elegant look.
It's a challenging piece to work with, that makes it one of
                    our favourites. |
